my grandfather's home has been the location for several shoots of mine, some of which have been published online, others that have not. his home is special to me, something that will always hold a place in my heart and in my mind. i spent many days in that home while i was growing up and i can remember so many happy memories in that house. i can see myself running up and down the staircase, falling and slipping and attacking my cousins as we raced for whatever new toy had been brought in the house by the older cousins. i can see my whole family laughing around the table and eating and making silly jokes and i can remember putting on performances for our parents in whatever clothes we could find. every time i am in that home, it's like my childhood is played back to me. you cannot see much of the home in these images, but this house deserves a post of its own, and you will be able to see how lovely a house it is.

forgotten memories

the location that I shot this story in was an abandoned house and when you're in it, you almost feel invasive yet oddly at home. it's as if you could imagine the home in its former glory and you begin to realize how real that house was to someone once before and that they spent part of their lives in that house. and they laughed and cried and felt pain and joy and everything is gone now. they've all been forgotten in a way. those walls no longer held photographs. every room void of any sign of previous life, except for a small room on the second floor that is dotted with small childlike paintings of butterflies and other creatures. there was even a name stenciled on the wall. i've since forgotten it, i suppose just like that home will be forgotten. these photographs may be the last of it's final moments before destruction. after all, the desire for profit condemned its fate.

considering how we were both dressed, it felt like we traveled back in time to no time in particular. just one where nothing else existed but two souls walking the dried land. It was relaxing, despite the surprising heat. for four days before and two days after, it had been well below the normal 105 degree weather we had been experiencing, but it never fails that they day we trek out to this lovely spot of land that the heat spikes and the sun pounds on our backs. I want to spend more time here. It's so quiet and I thoroughly enjoy quiet, where everything is as it should be. everything is untouched and unspoiled and there are absolutely no worries creeping in the back of my mind. I need to go back.

beginnings

i once tried to explain to someone, what goes on in my head. the constant turning of a very colorful wheel, one that extends tentacles into the world, latches onto something and pulls it back and how that jumble of mess can produce some obviously insane thoughts or ideas. needless to say, that someone was a little frightened of me afterwards. maybe i explained myself incorrectly, or somehow i even offended that person, but it matters to me not. i don't bother try to explain why i do something or why i think up something anymore, other than i must and if i do not, i feel like a tortured soul wanting to escape into that moment, that idea. ironically, many have imagined that i am depressed due to my submersion into an idea.

i was never the individual trapped into constant social environments, but many times found myself alone, sucked into whatever my mind put out. throughout school i would sit in class, barely able to concentrate on the lecture or test being given due to my imagination running and my mind being elsewhere (I apologize to my teachers). call it daydreaming, if you will, but it was never out of boredom or disinterest in the topic we were discussing. quite the contrary actually. learning interested me very much, and it still does. much of my inspiration would sometimes come from a lecture or a piece of writing we were studying, or the function of organism, or that delicately woven piece of history that greatly impacted the world.

in simple terms, i have a symbiotic relationship with the world and its inhabitants. i love the world. i love humans, and i like to watch them live each day and experience events and i watch them question existence, and i love the creatures and plants of this world, how they are so very much alive but radically different at times. it all fascinates me so much. and i cannot help but think that my fascination with such intricate details about this world and the inhabitants of it fuel my photography and anything else i create. it is that desire to study it, and try to interpret it through my art. and i have strayed greatly from this. so much so that i have been incredibly angry at myself, but i remembered all this again, and i am so vibrant and thrilled about starting again and bringing new life into photography, and eventually films. my God, i am so delighted once again.
